The Auckland singles scene
EliteSingles caters for NZ dating, wherever you are in the country (for those outside of Auckland, please click here).
For those in Auckland however, there’s only one place to look: close to home. Of course, that’s easier said than done. In theory, Auckland dating should be a breeze – after all, this is NZ’s biggest and most diverse city, with no shortage of local singles (50% of the population is unmarried according to the 2013 Census).1 Yet, meeting someone amazing on the Auckland singles scene is no small task, especially if office romance and the bar/club circuit don’t appeal. Happily, for those serious about finding a deep connection, there is a method that works.
Auckland dating: the online approach
That method is online dating. It makes sense: in recent years online dating has shaken off the stigma and, now, it’s both an accepted and practical way to find a partner. Indeed, if you are looking for single men or single women who are both on your wavelength and in Auckland, dating online is ideal – not only will the right website let you be upfront about your needs and desires; it will connect you to other singles who have the same goals.
Why choose EliteSingles?
If your goals include meeting someone who is compatible on multiple levels, with whom you can truly see a future, then EliteSingles is the site for you.
Our members include many fantastic single men and single women in Auckland who are united by one main thing – they are sick of flings and they are looking for a relationship designed to last. We help them achieve that goal by providing a supportive, safe dating site with a focus on careful, personality-based matchmaking: a process that we have seen work time and time again.

Auckland date ideas: what to do?
Once you meet that person who stands out from all other Auckland singles; that person who gives you the good kind of butterflies, it will be time for the best part of Auckland dating, the dates themselves. And this is where the City of Sails excels – Auckland dating means being spoiled for romantic, fun date ideas. You can find some of EliteSingles’ favourite Auckland date ideas below (or find a map showing each idea right here).

Daytime Auckland dating
There are many amazing cafés in Auckland (and you probably already have a favourite), but what would a list of Auckland date ideas be without coffee? Little & Friday is a true star when it comes to date-friendly cafés – not only is their flat white amazing, the ambience in all three of their full locations is both relaxing and refreshing, ideal for soothing any first date nerves. All that plus great brunch makes for a true winner.
If your date has a sweet tooth, head to Queen Street’s Giapo Ice Cream. This is isn’t just ice cream that pushes the boat out; this is ice cream that launches the whole fleet. With incredible, creative flavours and decorations that you’ll still be swooning over days later, Giapo makes ice cream like you’ve never it had it before. There may be a queue in summer – but every minute spent waiting is worth it.

Auckland nightlife
After dark, the Auckland dating options get livelier, and one of the best places to experience this is Orleans. A Cajun/Creole restaurant that mixes delicious drinks with a soul-food inspired menu, Orleans is a truly invigorating place to dine. It would be enough to just enjoy the atmosphere with a couple of Sazerac cocktails but, happily, Orleans keeps the entertainment coming with their live jazz sets. Pure perfection!
If you prefer a more intimate, relaxed atmosphere, then head for Mea Culpa in Ponsonby. It’s not the biggest bar in Auckland, but if you and your date can get a seat then be prepared to be dazzled by the ever-changing drinks list (and by the skill of the bartenders preparing them!). The cocktails here are seasonal, locally-focused and pretty enough to pass as art; their taste is even better.

Out and about
Auckland dating also means taking full advantage of the city’s charming seaside suburbs; many of which have a very romantic atmosphere. Try driving (or grabbing a ferry) across to Devonport and taking a stroll through the village centre: you’ll find enough shops, galleries and pretty beaches to fill an afternoon. Make sure to stop at Bette’s afterwards to refuel – their local beers and great food are a must!
If you really want to dial up the romance, then catch the ferry over to Waiheke for a day of wine tasting and sight-seeing. Waiheke is home to fantastic art galleries and stunning, peaceful beaches, both ideal date backdrops, but where the island truly shines is with the wine. Try heading to Cable Bay for wonderful Syrah, accompanied by live music and jaw-dropping views (best seen from a beanbag on the lawn).
